The latest communication to the clan:

Dear Taylor Family:

Everything is confirmed for our Reunion at the B’nai B’rith Jewish Camp in Lincoln City, Oregon the second week in June (June 7th – 11th.)

On-Site: If you indicated that you plan to stay at the camp, the next mailing will detail the things that you should plan on bringing. We will also start to group people together in the cabins. If you have a preference to specific grouping, please let us know.

Off-Site: Those of you that plan to stay at a motel or campground need to make your reservations soon. We will assume families planning to stay off-site will make their own reservations. However, after you have confirmed your reservations, please drop us a line to let us know the dates and location you have booked.

Motels: We have attached the names, addresses, and telephone numbers for a number of motels closest to the B’nai B’rith reunion site.

Campground: We are unable to reserve a block of campsites at the KOA Kampground directly across the street from B’nai B’rith. KOA required far too much information about each family and rig. We have included information on the KOA Kampground.

Tents: We have checked with B’nai B’rith, and while they do have some locations available for tents, the overnight charge per person is the same as for staying in a cabin, so you may want to reconsider the accommodations. The KOA Kampground has very limited space available for tents. If you want to change from a tent to a B’nai B’rith cabin, let us know.

If you have NOT told us you are coming, and you decide to come, please let us know the details by returning the enclosed questionnaire. If you have already sent in the questionnaire, you can ignore it unless you want to revise the attendees, the dates, or the number of meals you had previously supplied. If you are not planning on attending, you need not respond to this letter – we just want to keep everyone informed of what’s going on. We can accept new attendee’s right up to the first of June, so if you have indicated that you are not coming, but decide to come, we can handle the increase. Just let us know as soon as you know. The only problem might be in getting a motel room, if you decide to stay off site.

Next month we will accelerate the planning of specific events and activities. We will forward that detail to you as soon as it is available. In addition, assignments for tasks that we need to do during the five days will also be planned and assigned (meal ticket takers, daily devotionals, daily hosts, grounds cleanup, etc.)

Because of Uncle Clarence’s generosity, and the additional pledged donations, the estimated rates for holding the reunion at the B’nai B’rith church camp in Lincoln City, Oregon are:

On Site ––––––––– Meals –––––––––

                           Lodging     Breakfast     Lunch   Dinner

Adults                  $ 8 per night      $ 3         $ 4      $ 5

Teens                   $ 4 per night     $ 1         $ 2      $ 3

Pre-Teens             $ 2 per night     $ 1         $ 1      $ 2

Children under 6         Free           Free       Free    Free

Maximum per family $20 per night $30 per day

A credit of $20 per night per family will be provided for families staying off site at motels. A credit of $10 per night per family will be provided for families staying off site at the KOA Kampground.

Bills: We will send out bills next month based on the dates, accommodations, and meals you indicated on your questionnaires. We will need to receive your payment by the end of April. If you have pledged a donation, and have not yet sent that in, it would be helpful if we also received all of the remaining pledged donations by the end of April.

The camp is in the middle of Lincoln City on Devil’s Lake, so fishing and boating are available on-site. They also have a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, a softball field, a sand volleyball court, a gymnasium, a large game room, rope challenge courses, canoeing, an outdoor amphitheater, an indoor stage, and meeting rooms. The living quarters are modern cabins for up to 15 people each (with bathrooms). Shower facilities are in a nearby building. Food facilities are available on-site in a large cafeteria-style dining room. We have reserved the:

  • Arts and Crafts room for Monday thru Thursday,
  • Sports equipment for Monday thru Thursday
  • Rope course for Tuesday thru Thursday,
  • Swimming pool (and life guards) for Monday thru Thursday, and
  • Canoe equipment (and lifeguards) for Tuesday thru Thursday.
  • A room will also be designated for those wishing to participate in our “flea market.”

This will be a great reunion and vacation, as Lincoln City is in the center of the largest recreational area of the North Oregon Coast (Newport on the south to Tillamook on the north.)

Start thinking about:

  1. What items you might want to donate toward our auction. The proceeds from the auction will be used as seed money for the next reunion and to subsidize the printing costs of the next family history book.
  2. If you would like to sell items at our “Flea Market.” This popular event is one way to share your hobbies, etc. with the rest of the clan as well as subsidize the expense of attending the reunion.
  3. Whether you want to participate in one of the talent shows. These are always fun. Be thinking of what you might want to do.

We are grateful for your assistance and cooperation in documenting our family history. If we sent you a genealogy sheet, or if you know of changes, please send in your corrections/additions.

If you have comments or suggestions contact me, and I will relay them to the Reunion Committee members. We appreciate your continued support of the Taylor Family Reunion.

Sincerely,

Clay Lisle
